Why did you choose to attend SUNY Potsdam?  The size of the school was one thing. I wasn't interested in having classes with hundreds of people in them. Also, the school was close to home and had a solid athletics program. I primarily came to play soccer.

Who was your favorite professor? That's a tough one! I don't think its fair to name just one, but its a tie between Dr. Youngblood and Dr. Karen Wilson, both of which are English and Communication professors.

What was your favorite class?  I loved all of the classes in both of my Speech Communication and French majors, but I really enjoyed Creative Writing because it actually made me enjoy writing again.

What is the most important skill you learned while at Potsdam? Prioritizing. I think everyone either learns or improves this skill in college. It has really helped me in my current job to sort out what needs to be done now and what can wait.

What is the most important thing you learned about yourself while at Potsdam?  Self-motivation. When you're living at home as a kid you always have your parents to push you to get things done and you're not quite sure how you're going to handle being on your own until you are. I managed to push myself to go to class (most of the time) and to make it to soccer practices. It's good to know that you can motivate yourself to work your hardest.

What advice would you give to current students?  Don't be shy and be sure to make friends.  Its a small enough school where you will see the same people. Don't be afraid to say hit to people you walk by. Get involved in clubs or intramurals. If you surround yourself with good friends you'll have them the rest of your life.

If you had the option to tell a prospective student one thing about Potsdam, what would it be?  The food is better than you would expect. I think Potsdam has the second best dining services in all of the SUNY system!

How has Potsdam helped you reach your personal and career goals?  My Speech Communication major has really helped me out as far as going through the interview process with potential jobs. I'm much more comfortable speaking in front of people now and I learned how to tailor my answers during an interview so that I am the most marketable candidate I can be.

What is your favorite memory or story?  Living in one of the new townhouses with 3 of my best friends.  It was the best year of college-period!
