Eligibility Requirements

  •  Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number.
  • Be a matriculated student and working toward a degree.  For Winterim financial aid, be matriculated for the spring 2013 term.
  • Be a non-matriculated student working on prerequisite coursework required for a graduate degree or taking classes towards a teachers certificate (financial assistance for these students is more restricted).
  • Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of the fall semester. If unsure of your status, check the SAP policy on the web at:  www.potsdam.edu/financialaid/sap.
  • Register (if you haven’t already) with the Selective Service, if you are a male between the ages of 18 and 25.
  • Be registered for and maintain at least 6 credit hours during the winterim and spring terms combined.  (Some students may be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant even if they are registered for less than 6 credit hours or possibly a private education loan.
  • If you have not already done so, file the 2012/2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or renewal FAFSA using your PIN number on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov  (Potsdam's code is 002850)

    Receipt of FAFSA data is required at least two weeks prior to the last day of the last session for which you are enrolled. If you wait to file your FAFSA and we receive the data after you have already completed winterim and spring classes, you will not be eligible for financial aid for the winterim/spring aid period.
  • Respond to your financial aid package immediately when notified by the Financial Aid Office.
